My name is Maria, and I am an educator, painter, and independent curator.  The last exhibition I curated was the ImagineSLS Film Festival at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art in September 2015.

I hold a Bachelor of Fine Art in Design. During my undergraduate work, I was the lead arts instructor with the Washington International School and at First Place, a shelter for bereft children in Washington State.  I initiated my graduate studies with New York University in Visual Arts Administration. I was accepted into Pratt for a Masters in Painting in 1998. I received an internship with the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City in 2006. In 2000, I co-founded an international non-profit arts organization which found its way into 13 countries and was in operation for 5 years. In 2016, I initiated my PhD which is currently building into my next body of work: Culture Mapping.

My art work began with sculpture, then moved into design and painting, and finally storytelling through pictures of my own. I enjoy taking photographs as much as I do painting. My paintings are primarily inspired by music and sutras. They are rendered in oils and collage.
